An example of early computer typesetting: ABC World Airways Guide
A complex document output directly from a data base. The ABC world airways guide – a monthly publication in two volumes – was among the first British publications to be computer typeset. The two-column layout was programmed by Robert Wallace for Computaprint in London, one of the pioneers of computer typesetting in Europe. It was output on a Lumizip 901 phototypesetter driven by a Univac mainframe computer. Designed by Higonnet and Moyroud, the Lumizip could output 500,000 characters per hour.
